Modbus TCP/IP to IEC 61850 Gateway

The ProLinx Modbus TCP/IP to IEC 61850 gateway enables communication between the Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) on an IEC-61850 network and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) or Programmable Automation Controllers (PACs) on a Modbus TCP/IP network.

The configuration utility software provided with the gateway uses IED configuration files to import complex IEC 61850 data structures. The utility creates Variable files and Function Block files for import into Unity Pro projects for Quantum or M340 processors.

IEC 61850 is the international standard that defines the hardware and communication requirements for all devices within substation automation. The standard­ized naming conventions imposed by the IEC 61850 standard improves interoper­ability between systems provided by diverse manufactures or created by multiple system integrators.

PROFIBUS Multi-Slave or PROFIBUS Network Analyzer Gateway

The PROFIBUS Multi-Slave or PROFIBUS Network Analyzer Gateway has two distinct operational modes. The first mode, PROFIBUS Multi-Slave, enables the transfer of large amounts of data from a PROFIBUS DP Master controller to EtherNet/IP and/or Modbus TCP-enabled PLCs. The Multi-Slave functionality allows up to 15,250 words of Input and Output data to be transferred without requiring multiplexing PLC code to be written in a traditional single slave solution. The second mode, PROFIBUS Network Capture, facilitates the capture, logging, and filtering of packets on a PROFIBUS network without interrupting the running production network. This enables a root cause analysis to be performed on the captured PROFIBUS packets which aid’s in the identification of complex issue(s).

The first SE gateway, the 5204SE-MNET-PDPMV1 Modbus TCP/IP to PROFIBUS DP-V1 Master gateway, easily turns a Modicon M340 or a Quantum Programmable Automation Controller (PAC) into a PROFIBUS DPV1 Master. The new Application Communication Logic functions built into ProSoft Configuration Builder (PCB) automatically generate all the Unity Pro data types, variables, and logic required for the M340 or Quantum to perform PROFIBUS DPV1 cyclic and acyclic communication.

PCB automatically generates customized export files based on the PROFIBUS DP network configuration for the gateway. These files import into Unity Pro version 4 software without modification, eliminating the need to write additional communications message logic.

Automatically-generated Derived Function Block logic also provides advanced PROFIBUS DPV1 acyclic message pass-through capability. Acyclic messaging allows an M340 or Quantum to request extended slave data and diagnostics, as well as access slave-specific special functions.
