Modbus TCP/IP Client Communication Module with Reduced Data Block
MVI56-MNETCR
The MVI56 Modbus TCP/IP Client Communication Module with Reduced Data Block is designed to allow ControlLogix processors to interface easily with other Modbus TCP/IP protocol-compatible devices. Compatible devices include not only Modicon processors (which support the Modbus TCP/IP protocol) but also a wide assortment of other server devices.
This module uses a small I/O data area for data transfer between the module and the ControlLogix processor, making it ideal for ControlNet or Ethernet applications with the module in a remote rack.
Features and Benefits
This module was created to improve the performance when servers are not needed on a Modbus TCP/IP network. The module supports up to 30 clients with up to 16 commands for each client, making it easy to enable/disable the commands from the ladder logic. The client command control word contains one bit for each command.
Some of the other features include:
- Support for the storage and transfer of up to 5000 registers to/from the ControlLogix processor's controller tags
- Module memory usage that is completely user definable
- 10/100 MB Ethernet compatible interface
- Configurable parameters for the client include:
- Minimum Command Delay
- User Defined Commands (Read/Write)
General Specifications
- Single Slot - 1756 backplane compatible
- The module is recognized as an Input/Output module and has access to processor memory for data transfer between processor and module
- Ladder Logic is used for data transfer between module and processor. Sample ladder file included.
- Configuration data obtained from configuration text file downloaded to module. Sample configuration file included
- This module uses a small I/O data area for 40 word data block transfer between the module and the ControlLogix processor, for applications with the module in a remote rack.
Applications
With the growing trend of Ethernet technology in the industrial marketplace, this product has a wide variety of application uses.
- Food processing
- Petrochemical
- Pulp and paper
- Automobile manufacturing
- Water and Wastewater
- Oil and Gas
- Power and Electric
Functional Specifications
The MVI56-MNETCR transmits smaller data packets than the MVI56-MNETC, which makes it ideal for remote rack or where bandwidth is limited.
- 40 word data blocks (scheduled)
- Special functions (command control, event commands, status, etc.) are supported by unscheduled instructions
- Operation via simple ladder logic
- Complete set up and monitoring of module through software and user-constructed configuration file (MNET.CFG)
- Backplane interface via I/O access
